How to Play Baccarat
Baccarat is an iconic table game that brings to mind images of James Bond-like casino action. This game is played on large tables in high-roller rooms, with players betting with chips valued at $25, $50, $100 or more. Baccarat has a reputation for being slow and ritualistic, but it’s also one of the most exciting casino games out there. It’s a game of chance and luck, but if you know how to play it correctly, you can get the edge over the house and win some money.
The game starts with a number of cards being dealt from a shoe to the Player’s and Banker’s hands. There are usually from seven to 14 seats for players and a dealer area, but only two hands of cards are dealt. The Player’s hand is marked below PLAYER and the Banker’s hand is marked BANKER. There are five possible outcomes of a round, with the winning hand being the one closest to 9. The Player and Banker’s hands are both scored using a point system: Picture cards and Tens are worth zero points while cards numbered 2-9 retain their face value, and Aces are worth one point. The total point count is added up and, when it crosses over nine or enters a double digit, the second digit is the value of the hand.
Once the Players’ and Banker’s hands are dealt, the dealer will draw a third card for either the Player or the Banker. If the total point count of either hand is 8 or 9, it’s a “natural,” and the bets placed are paid out. The same is true if the first two cards total 9; the game ends and the bets placed are paid out.
In addition to the Player and Banker bets, players can make a Tie bet, which pays out if the three cards come up as a pair. The Super Six Bet is an optional bet that pays out if the Banker hand wins with 6 points. The payout for winning a Super Six bet is 12x the bet amount.
Before playing baccarat, it’s important to decide how much you want to spend and stick to your budget. This is a game where you can easily lose hours at the table, so be careful not to overspend. Set a goal for yourself and stick to it, even if you’re having a good run.
If you’re not comfortable with the rules of baccarat, there are plenty of online resources that can help you get started. You can also visit a casino that offers the game and ask the dealers to show you how it’s done. Baccarat is a great game for people of all ages and skill levels to enjoy, but be sure to play responsibly and always use cash. It’s never a good idea to put your credit card on the table.
