The game is played with two hands, a banker and a player, and uses eight decks of cards. The objective of the game is to be the closest to nine points. The banker’s hand with the highest ranking card wins. When a player has two cards totaling nine, they are deemed a “natural.” They also win if they have three or more cards totaling nine. For example, a hand with three cards totaling nine and one card totaling six wins. A pair of nines and one six is a baccarat hand of 15 points.
Baccarat can be played in high roller rooms in casinos. This is especially popular with Asian high rollers. In these rooms, the betting is regulated to minimums of $50. The chips used in European casinos are called “plaques” and are oblong in shape. These chips make the game look very exciting.
